Problem

On-course information has to be useful at a glance. Players need course context and shot tracking without the interface becoming another distraction during a round.

Solution

I designed the mobile UI and branding in Figma, then built a progressive web app that combines GPS yardages, hole layouts, shot tracking, and club recommendations, backed by a serverless AWS API.

Architecture

  • Player locationGPS context
  • Golf Caddie PWAReact + TypeScript
  • Course mapsGoogle Maps API
  • API Gateway + LambdaRate-limited REST API
  • DynamoDB + CognitoRounds, shots, auth
The app combines location-aware course context with a mobile-first round experience.

Decisions

Design for the course, not the desk
The product is mobile-first because it is meant to be used during a round. Core information is organized around immediate golf decisions rather than a dense desktop-style dashboard.
Design before code
I worked from planning and mood boards through mid and high-fidelity Figma designs, including the logo, before building the interface in React.
Combine context and tracking
GPS yardages and map context help with the next shot, while round and shot tracking build a useful record of what happened across the course.
